Sikh Anand Karaj invitation wording and guest tips

An Anand Karaj invitation should clearly distinguish the Gurdwara ceremony from any later reception. Families may have different hosting preferences and local Gurdwaras may have their own arrangements. Confirm the schedule and visitor guidance with the venue before printing. The English wording below focuses on welcoming guests, explaining where to arrive and showing the ceremony time without treating local customs as universal rules.

Illustrative sample; names and venues are fictional.

Name the ceremony and venue precisely

Write Anand Karaj as the event name and include the Gurdwara’s complete address, city and country. If breakfast, the ceremony and langar have separate times, list the times supplied by your hosts. Overseas visitors may be navigating an unfamiliar city, so include the correct entrance or parking guidance in a guest note. A reception at another address needs a separate event block rather than a vague reception to follow.

Help first-time Gurdwara visitors

Ask the Gurdwara what guidance it wants you to share about head covering, removing footwear and respectful clothing. Send the confirmed information with the invitation; do not invent a dress requirement or promise that supplies are available. Guests with mobility or seating needs should contact the venue beforehand. A friendly explanation helps friends participate respectfully without placing a long list of instructions beside the couple’s names.

Respect names, scripts and family preference

The Sikh style uses the ੴ emblem and supports Gurmukhi names. English wording can sit alongside names that you keep in Gurmukhi or English letters. Check every name with the couple and family: automatically suggested spelling may not match their preference. Avoid copying an unfamiliar religious quotation simply because it appears on another invitation. If you include one, confirm the exact wording, spelling and suitability with the family or Gurdwara.

Keep digital and printed invitations consistent

Once the venue confirms the timetable, use the same date and time on the JPG, PDF and any video. A short video can introduce the celebration, while a static JPG remains easier to consult on the journey. Print a proof before ordering many copies. The PDF is a file for your own printer, not a promise of physical delivery. If you change the reception location later, send a clear update to every recipient instead of relying only on a new file name.

English wording you can adapt

With the blessings of our families, we joyfully invite you to the Anand Karaj of Simran Kaur and Aman Singh. Saturday, 20 February 2027 · Guest arrival 9:30 AM · Anand Karaj 10:30 AM. Gurdwara Sahib, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. All times are Toronto local time (EST on this date). Langar follows. Please see your personal invitation for the full street address and RSVP contact.

Replace every example name, address, date and RSVP instruction with your confirmed details. Do not send an example venue as if it were booked.

Time zones: show the venue time first

Write the date in words, for example “20 February 2027”, so US and UK guests do not reverse the day and month. Put the city and time zone beside the time. India uses IST (UTC+05:30); Toronto and London can change offset with daylight saving, so check the event’s date rather than today’s clock. For example, on 20 February 2027, 11:00 AM in Jaipur is 12:30 AM in Toronto and 5:30 AM in London. Label any second time as a guest reference and keep the venue time prominent.

The maker prints the time you enter without converting it. Its current guest calendar/countdown assumes IST, so for a wedding outside India use the printed local-time details and share your own verified calendar invitation. Do not rely on the automatic guest calendar for an overseas venue. Check any conversion with a calendar set to the actual event date before sending.
